Project:

Healthy pork chain test facility

The POP3 project Test Facility Healthy Pork Chain is working on several goals of the Vital Pig Farming Program. This has been done by developing mobile laboratory facilities, which analyze water, manure, cleanliness and barn climate on site. The advantage of a mobile lab is that the results are readily available. These measurements are additional to independent analyses of such things as feed composition, feed quality, water quality, barn climate and possible emissions of harmful substances, such as ammonia. As a result, pig farmers will make more use of this type of analysis. In the project, measuring equipment is being installed and tested in two sample houses. A number of interesting findings have been made, such as the usability of sensors. The Sustainable Pork Chain is using this project to further develop its integrated certification system, with which it can demonstrate to supermarkets and consumers that the meat meets high standards of animal welfare, the environment and working conditions.
