Weaned piglets are the animal category with the most health problems on pig farms. Therefore, Vewi Techniek has developed a drinking water and feeding system tailored to the natural behavior of weaned piglets: the Vewi Feeder!
During the development of the Vewi Feeder, independent research took place on the effects of the Feeder on the technical result. From this, the conclusions below were drawn:
- Piglets fed the Vewi Feeder took in more feed (p=0.03) and water (p=0.06) from weaning to 35 days after weaning and grew 37 g/day (p=0.10) faster than piglets in the control group at similar feed conversion rates;
- Primarily on the first day after weaning, piglets on the Vewi Feeder take in more feed (167 g/big) than the control group (50 g/big);
- Seeing food makes you eat; in the first 6 hours after weaning alone, piglets with the Vewi Feeder put their heads in the Feeder an average of 30 to 35x compared to 15 to 22x with conventional feed and drinking water dispensing.(Of these, one-third were in the dry feeder and two-thirds were in the drinking bowl).
The ultimate success of the Vewi Feeder comes from its integrated feed and drinking water delivery. This provides opportunities to increase water and feed intake immediately after weaning. Due to the round shape of the Vewi Feeder and placement in the middle of the pen, group eating and drinking is encouraged. Furthermore, the feed is optimally offered to the animals, reducing feed and water spillage to a minimum. The adjustable drinking height also has a positive effect on feed intake; the feeder grows along with the piglets, so to speak.
With improved feed and water intake combined with higher growth, better feed conversion and improved health, these factors ensure a quick return on investment in the Vewi Feeder.
The Vewi Feeder is available in four versions.
